To start the Omnixx Console application, you must first access the Omnixx Login screen. In order to do this, double-click on the browser icon located on your computer’s desktop, the icon should correspond to either Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. If you followed the directions in Section 1.4.2 - Setting the Omnixx Login Screen as the Home Page, the browser will automatically take you to the Omnixx Login screen. If the Omnixx Login screen is not configured as your Home Page, type the URL (web address) into the browser’s address bar. Also, keep in mind that your computer may already be configured with a shortcut icon for the Omnixx Login screen. If this is the case, simply double-click on the icon to proceed.

To begin installation of the current version of Java Web Start and the Java 2 Runtime Environment, click on the First time users click here to install the Java Runtime link located at the bottom of the Omnixx login screen. A warning is displayed if you are a first time user.

The Java Web Start files are installed by the path specified in the previous step. A dialog box is displayed indicating the completion level of the installation.

The Omnixx applications available to the user through desktop links are listed and described below. Only those client applications the user is authorized for are accessible through the Omnixx Desktop screen.

Omnixx Console

Omnixx Console provides the functionality needed to maintain the Omnixx server. It allows authorized administrators to update the Omnixx database to add, modify and delete applications, certifications, subagencies, users, devices, training courses, exercises, tests, etc. All console functionality is presented as “wizards”, a series of displays that lead an administrator through his/her tasks. All changes are automatically propagated to end-users at the appropriate time.

A remote version of the Omnixx Console exists that allows subagency administrators to maintain database records for the subagency users and devices. Also, a central version exists that provides global control over the entire system. Both versions are HTML/Javascript applications that run on Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer.

Omnixx Force Browser

Omnixx Force Browser provides functionality for entering queries, updating state and NCIC databases, and exchanging messages with other end-users via the message switch. It is a Java-based, thin-client application that runs on both Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer. Omnixx Force Browser is a fully functional, browser-based law enforcement client application that includes a persistent connection to the message switch for timely delivery of asynchronous messages.

Omnixx Force is also a multiple document interface (MDI) application that provides a common application shell with the ability to display one or more transaction forms simultaneously.

Omnixx Trainer

Omnixx Trainer provides certification training and testing that is fully integrated with Omnixx Force client applications. By utilizing Omnixx Trainer, students can review the current status of their individual certifications, take initial or refresher training courses, and are offered tests to earn or renew their certifications. Once a student has passed a certification test, the results are automatically posted to their operator record allowing access to Omnixx Force transactions related to that certification. The message switch allows the student to use those transactions.

Omnixx Certifications

Once the administrator is logged on to the Omnixx Desktop screen, the Omnixx Certifications screen is displayed automatically. This screen provides the administrator with a list of all certifications for the user currently logged onto the Omnixx application. The information contained on this screen is listed and described below:

User Name – Name of the user currently logged onto the Omnixx Desktop.

Agency – Identifier for agency the current user is assigned to.

Certification – The certifications currently assigned to the user.

Status – The current status of each certification assigned to the user. The certification may be active or disabled.

Expiration Date – Date each certification expires for the current user. This date alerts the user to plan for mandatory re-certification testing for each expired certification.

The user exits the Omnixx Certifications screen by clicking the Close button or the small button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. The user returns to the Omnixx Desktop screen and clicks the icon for the Omnixx Console application.

Synchronization with the Omnixx Application Repository is complete upon login. The Omnixx Console application window is displayed and the user may begin selecting the desired menu options.
